My name is Stacy Pearsall. I'm a disabled combat veteran from Operation Iraqi Freedom, and owner of the Charleston Center for Photography (CCP).

On May 1st, I'll be hosting a fundraising event, "Celebration for a Cause", to raise money for the Independence Fund. The Celebration will take place at The Citadel's Johnson Haygood Stadium in the Pearson Lounge on the 4th floor from 6:00-8:00 p.m. All proceeds I raise will go to the Independence Fund. The evening will boast heavy hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer, door prizes, photo booth, musical entertainment and a live auction that includes golf and sailing packages, exotic wines and vodkas, and fine art pieces and clothing.

Honorary guest, Sgt. Major Jesse Acosta, will talk briefly about his challenges as a wounded combat veteran blinded by a bomb explosion in Iraq, and how his experiences through the Independence Fund helped improve his quality of life. In addition to Jesse's extraordinary story, I'll also share my own story of life under fire, how I was wounded and my own challenges of survival and recovery.

I'd be honored if you'd join me at the Celebration as my special guest. If you cannot attend the Celebration, purchase a ticket anyway and we'll give it to a disabled veteran who can attend in your place!

Stacy L. Pearsall is a combat disabled Air Force veteran who earned the Bronze Star Medal and Commendation with Valor for heroic actions under fire. She is a White House Champion of Change who plays a pivotal roll in changing and implementing new policy regarding veteran’s healthcare at VA medical facilities nationwide, and she’s involved in disabled veteran outreach and recovery care coordination. She is a spokeswoman/advocate for a number of veteran service organizations and non-profits including the Independence Fund. For her exemplary commitment to community, veterans and students, the Citadel will be presenting her with their highest honor, an honorary doctoral degree. In celebration of her distinguished recognition, Stacy will be hosting a party to raise money for the Independence Fund. All proceeds go to support the Lt. Dan Weekend Retreat, which benefits severely wounded troops and their families.
