Friday, June 9th, Doors Open at 7pm, Show at 8pm About KIP: Kip was born in Mount Pleasant, Texas and later moved to Idaho in "The Winter of '72" to avoid the Titus County jail. He began to hang around with undesirables like Pinto Bennett and Muzzie Braun. Uncle Kippy will keep ya laughing all night long! Every serious fan of the Braun brothers knows Uncle Kippy. From his seminal album 'Jess For You' back in 1980, which yielded the song “Wild Western Windblown Band” later recorded by Reckless Kelly, and “Rock Springs to Cheyenne”, recorded by Micky and The Motorcars, Kip Attaway laid down a template for a homegrown rocking country sound and songs based on real life experience. Born and raised in the small town of Mount Pleasant, in northeast Texas, Kip moved to the San Francisco Bay area briefly as a teenager, and then to southwest Idaho when he was still eighteen. There he met Muzzie Braun, Pinto Bennett (and The Famous Motel Cowboys), and others in the remote Idaho music scene. They all became fast friends. Invited to contribute to a Christmas album being produced in the Sun Valley area, Kip asked Muzzie to bring the boys, and thus began the recording career of the Braun brothers. It was a song called “I'm Gettin' Nuttin' for Christmas.” After winning the Marlboro National Talent Search out in San Francisco, yielding a record deal and an opening spot with Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, Jr. and Ricky Skaggs, Kip hit the road for a time, then settled in Jackson Hole for a long residency at The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. His band included one Claudia Appling, later Williams, who would come to be known throughout the northwest as Montana Rose. It was there, in a hotel room in Jackson Hole, that Kip taught Jerry Jeff Walker the Chris Wall song “Trashy Women”, which would become a big hit for the gonzo Texan. Kip is still on the road. Now based out of The Deadwood Mountain Grand in South Dakota, he travels all over the U.S. doing his one-man show for adoring audiences and keeping the flame alive for his fans and fellow troubadours.
