Blue Ridge Arts Council & The Patricia Windrow Arts Committee
88 Keys Grand Piano Restoration Campaign
Make our Grand Grander!Gifted by the Front Royal Music Study Club in 1991 to Blue Ridge Arts Council, our 1920's Baldwin Grand has served our music loving patrons for countless evenings of entertainment, and proudly as a teaching and performing companion for generations of piano students. Through a partnership with The Patricia Windrow Arts Committee and BRAC, a campaign to replace the key action mechanism has been launched. The campaign, named for the number of keys on a standard piano, gives donors a chance to “purchase” one or more keys toward the overall goal. All donors will be publicly recognized at the end of the campaign and everyone who contributes will receive an invitation to the event celebrating the project’s completion. In addition, all the donors’ names will be placed on a plaque that will be placed in the BRAC Gallery. This campaign gives the community a chance to be a part of our Grand's legacy and develop a sense of ownership for this wonderful community treasure.
This refurbishment will cost $3000. That may seem high, but spread out over 88 keys, it works out to just $35 a key. We think that Front Royal music lovers might be glad to chip in $35. You can buy an octave (that’s 12 keys) for $420. Or a major third (five keys) for $175.
Our goal is to complete the fundraising campaign by August 15, in order to unveil refurbishment at the opening of an exhibition called "Portraits and Places" by the late Patricia Windrow on Sunday, September 11, at the Blue Ridge Arts Council Gallery.
